Hiroshima, 65 years ago

August 6th marked the 65th anniversary of dropping of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Japan. Gizmodo has posted a set of gut-wrenching interviews from survivors of this incident, which can be found here.

Having visited Hiroshima myself a few years ago, I can say the city, and likely the entire country, will never forget what happened that day. The A-bomb Dome pictured above stands as testament to that. I remember walking through the Peace Memorial Park commanded a solemn respect that I cannot begin to describe. The wide open and beautifully landscaped park was eerily reminiscent of the scarred and flattened landscape that survivors probably saw that day.

Thank you Mel for inspiring this post.
