WikiLeaky
Have you ever been to a revolution where no one got hurt? … That’s not a revolution friends; that’s a party.
- Thomas L. Friedman
I really hate to give WikiLeaks any more exposure than it already has, but I can’t believe all the buzz this thing has been generating. I’m even more surprised by the public outcry for “democracy” and “freedom fighters” and all that other colourful garbage they’re promoting to just their “cause”.
Its one thing to expose government and corporate scandals that are blatantly trying to screw the population. But when releasing sensitive materials has the potential to severely strain international relations between countries, then really, what purpose are you serving other than feeding your own ego?
(On a side note, one of the most ridiculous of these claims was that CBC is promoting “anti-American” sentiments in the population through its programming. Just to set the record straight, CBC is a taxpayer-funded Crown corporation, and it is mandated to preserve Canadian cultural values. American networks have no problems portraying other countries, including Canada, in a variety of unflattering situations, and yet when we reciprocate they cry foul. Suck it up princess!)
Honestly, do you think that Assange guy (or whatever the hell his name is) is doing this for the “good of the public”?! And to all you dumb lemmings who are just jumping on the bandwagon and playing revolutionaries, what do you hope to achieve? Let’s say you’re actually successful, and you bring down this big bad “corrupt” government, what then? When the entire world hits the fan, who’s going to clean up your mess?! I’m pretty sure you aren’t going to do it, even if you were capable!
Everyone wants to be a rebel and stick it to “the Man”, but what they all really want is to have a big party and not let anything get in the way. And in the end, who really gets screwed? Why not ask MasterCard’s customers? Who is really getting in the way of freedom and democracy here?
These tactics are the same as those Black Bloc punks who try to win public support by demonstrating the so-called “excessive force” used by authorities against civilians. Again, I can’t believe people fall for this bullshit. Seriously, when you’re attacking with bricks and pipes, and vandalizing the city just to promote your “cause”, you deserve to be arrested. You deserve to be beat down on live broadcasts, because you are first and foremost, a public menace. And if you actually ended up dying for your “cause”, then maybe we can start calling this a revolution. Otherwise, you’re just having a party at the expense of others.
